Fri and Sat 5 pm until close When it comes to food and restaurants, Orlando has a great variety of some of the tastiest food from all over the world. Unfortunately German food is becoming a dying breed in Central Florida. If you want a taste and you are craving some good old fashioned and hearty German food then head over to Bauern Stube.
A Gasthaus is a German-style inn or tavern with a bar, a restaurant, banquet facilities and hotel rooms for rent. They are typically found in smaller towns and are often family-owned. It is not uncommon to have three generations of a family working together in such an establishment and many have been owned by the same family for generations. Bauern Stube really does a good job of recreating that ambiance and atmosphere.
Being that we were at a Gasthaus we had to indulge in some fine German Beer. We opted to go for the BlackBeer…which is Köstritzer Blackbier imported from Germany. They have a few different brews on tap all of them mostly German. If you are unsure of what to order, just ask your server. The black beer is actually a sweeter beer with a nutty caramel and malt flavor…not overly sweet, but very smooth.
Nothing gets me more in the mood for German food than the thought of potato pancakes or Kartoffel Pfannkuchen for those of you that Sprechen sie Deutsch!! So we started off with the potato pancake portion of 3 that comes with sour cream and apple sauce. I thought the potato pancakes were good. I prefer mine to be a bit crispier and lighter, as these were thick and heavy more like - actual pancakes. Maybe I am just use to a more Americanized version. They were good nonetheless…especially smothered with applesauce.
In addition to a fresh basket of bread with real butter, all Main meals come with your choice of mashed potatoes, boiled or fried potatoes, noodles, dumpling or Spätzle.
Also included is a choice of a vegetable: red cabbage, white cabbage, sauerkraut, or green beans. I opted for the spatzel and green beans.
"Spatzel is a dish of tiny noodles or dumplings made with flour, eggs, water or milk, salt and sometimes nutmeg. The spatzle dough can be firm enough to be rolled and cut into slivers or soft enough to be forced through a sieve, colander or spatzle-maker with large holes.
I decided to keep it simple and go with the Bratwurst platter for my main entrée.The Bratwurst was roasted to perfection and was paired with spicy brown mustard and a mildly seasoned ketchup along with horseradish. When everything was combined together…it made for a great taste experience!
The green beans were seasoned very well, and the spatzel with melted cheese was cooked properly and delicious.
My wife had the Rouladen, which is a slice of a beef roll, with spices, bacon and onions slow simmered and roasted. The Rouladen was quite tasty and very tender. I would definitely recommend the Rouladen. At Bauern Stube all of the portions are just right…not too big, not too small---you will get your fill of food.

Should you still have room left….I highly recommend getting something off the desert tray.
We split a slice of the hazelnut cake that was sweet and delicious. It has a homemade butter cream icing and just the right amount of hazelnut flavor. At Bauern Stube if you are German or ever been to Germany..you will feel right at home. If you are not from Germany or never have been, you will certainly feel like a welcomed guest in a great Gasthaus.
The service was very prompt and courteous. The owners always make a point to stop at every table to greet you and make you laugh and feel welcomed. Baurn Stube is truly a hidden gem in Orlando!!(If you want some good German food get to Bauern Stube)
